What it is

There were 1000 copies of a record made by Spider John Koerner & Willie & the Bumblebees in 1972. It is called Music is Just a Bunch of Notes. Recorded it the MN woods by Dave Ray. Legends of the day, legends of the folk rock revival. Out there it the woods they made a great record.

I ended up with a copy of it, having found it in the LP rack in the college library. I picked it up because I recognized the name of Willie & the Bumblebees from Bonnie Raitt's first record.  Eventually the library made a short lived move to divest itself of it's vinyl collection and the record came home with me. It's one of the most cherished in my collection.

I have seen a few more of them listed for sale here and there, mostly on e-bay, but damn few. I hope to use this space to track down the rest of them. Failing that I'd like convince Red House records to re-release the damn thing. It makes a joyful noise from Ramble & Tumble to Taking My Time.

Do you own a copy of this record? Do you know someone who does? Out of a thousand how many are left?

  1. I almost certainly have a copy of Music Is Just A Bunch of Notes. To be absolutely sure, I'd have to dig out the box of vinyl albums I've kept. That box also contains one or two unopened vinyl albums (probably "Snaker's Here" and "Spider Blues" but again I'd have to check). I have a CD copy I got from Dave Ray some years ago. In fact, I was just in the process of dupping it when I ran across your blog while looking for a discography. I'm a huge KR&G fan.
